Frequently Asked Questions

Is VersQ a real CAT tool?

Yes. VersQ includes the core features that define a computer-assisted translation (CAT) tool: a segment-level side-by-side editor, Translation Memory that grows with every project, Glossary management for consistent terminology, and TMX import/export for interoperability with Trados, MemoQ, and other professional translation environments.

How does VersQ compare to Trados and MemoQ?

VersQ is a browser-based CAT tool — no installation, no license fees, works on Mac, Windows, Linux, and Chromebook. It combines the essential CAT workflow (TM, Glossary, segment editor) with 50+ integrated AI models (Claude, GPT-4, Gemini) so you get machine translation, TM matching, and glossary enforcement in one place. Trados and MemoQ remain more feature-complete for very large teams, but VersQ is faster to set up, significantly cheaper, and adds modern AI translation natively.

Can I import my existing TMX files?

Yes. VersQ supports TMX import and export. Bring translation assets from Trados, MemoQ, Wordfast, or Matecat into VersQ, and export your TM at any time — your data is always portable.

Who owns the Translation Memory I build?

You do. Your Translation Memory is private to your account and exportable in TMX format whenever you want. We never share, sell, or reuse your TM data for model training or any other purpose.

Does the Glossary enforce terminology automatically?

Yes. When a source segment contains a term from your glossary for that language pair, the glossary entry is surfaced in the editor so you can apply it consistently. Glossaries are organized per language pair and per project where relevant.

What languages and file formats are supported?

VersQ supports 20+ languages including right-to-left languages (Arabic, Persian, Hebrew). Input formats include PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, EPUB, TXT, HTML, RTF, ODT, CSV, JSON, XML, SRT, and VTT. Output formats include HTML, PDF, DOCX, RTF, and EPUB. Formatting is preserved across the entire document.

Is there a free plan for freelance translators?

Yes. The free tier includes 10,000 effective words per month with access to budget AI models, Translation Memory, and Glossary. No credit card required. Paid plans unlock higher word limits, access to professional and premium AI models, and higher processing priority.

Can I use my own AI model preferences?

Yes. VersQ offers 50+ AI models via OpenRouter, organized into Budget, Standard, Professional, and Premium tiers. You choose the model per translation based on content type — a budget model for drafts, Claude 3.5 Sonnet or GPT-4o for high-stakes legal or technical documents.
